Hiya! My name is Emilia. I’m a certified Nutrition Educator, and I’m currently at culinary school training to be a Natural Chef.
I started this blog to share nutritional information, extended it to include recipes and now it also has a fair share of my general foodie life and ramblings (such as the importance of always carrying hot sauce and gratuitous cute photo’s of my dog). Welcome!
Nutrition
I’m passionate about both health and food and am always keen to discover and share information about both. Before starting culinary school I was working in health education and I have never had a job I enjoyed more.
However, although I devour nutrition research and hope to work as a Nutritionist in the future, sharing this information in a less formal way has always been more fun for me. After all, some of the most insightful nutrition information I have gained from fun conversation with friends, or discussions on general forums. Personally, I prefer reading nutrition advice from people I feel I can relate to … and I wanted my blog to reflect that.
Here are some posts I wrote on the health benefits of wine (my most popular post ever!), coffee and chocolate. You can also read my guest post on Summer Tomato, for more information about my nutritional outlook and history.
Recipes
Although nutrition was originally the key focus of my blog, over time it developed into more of a food blog. Having spent the early part of my 20′s being way too restrictive about the foods I ate, I didn’t really have time to enjoy cooking. Now that has all changed and I’m at culinary school!
Currently, most of the recipes I feature are more Nourishing Traditions influenced; lots of vegetables, nutrient rich proteins, plus the occasional more nutrient rich (most of the time) dessert. This is what my eating style has evolved into. I’m currently feeling SO well eating this way that I am very keen to spread the message. I try to post a couple of recipes per week… successful cooking experiments permitting.
I love so many of the recipes I have shared but if I had to pick two favourites they would probably be the Orange Beef Stew, gluten free Carrot Cake or Chicken Piccata.
Life
Over time I’ve started included more and more personal pieces on this blog. Sharing parts of my every day life has become a bit of a creative outlet (please don’t laugh too much at me saying that!) and I know it’s also something I enjoy reading on other food and nutrition blogs. Besides I adore my little family and I sometimes have foodie obsessions that are just too exciting not to share.
Additionally, I hope the less formal foodie posts provide a bit of a realistic slant to the nutritional advice I give. I definitely eat what many people consider to be an insane amount of vegetables and I give quite a lot of thought to making sure everything I cook is nourishing. However, I do have days where I eat carrot cake for breakfast and then sometimes lunch too. As my nutrition tutor once said to me ‘Even I don’t eat like me all the time’. I think it’s important to show that!
